TREATMENT OF CONGENITAL GLAUCOMA

or congenital glaucoma is essentially surgical, with surgeries espicially meant for these young eyes and their particular glaucoma conditioon. Mediacal therapy (using glaucoma eye drops) in congenital glaucoma can not be used for any prolonged duration for several reasons; their weak efficacy in this young age group and potential major side effects on the general health. Furthermore, there is no sufficient long-term studies on their role in scientific literature.

SURGERY FOR CONGENITAL GLAUCOMA

Conventional techniques of glaucoma surgery used in adults have a very low success rate when used in children. The use of certain chemicals to augment the success of these surgerries, though effective for a short term, leads to significant side effects later on in life.

Dr Khalil is pioneering his own modifications of the best successful technique of a children glaucoma surgery called trabeculotomy. He has been invited to present his technique of modified trabeculotomy and his management of infants with congenital glaucoma in tens of prestigious international conferences. Along the past years, he has treated over 1000 children successfully with his technique.
